Three students of University of Energy and Natural Resources(UENR) won three (3) medals at the Mini Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) games held at University of Cape Coast. The students, Janet Asraa level 100 BSc. Hospitality Management won two (2) silver medals for 1,500 and 5,000 meters, Micheal Asiedu level 100 BSc Resource Enterprise and Entrepreneurship won bronze medal for the race of long jump whiles Elijah Adjei came 4th out of 8 institutions in the triple jump competition.
The team led by the Senior Coach of the Sports Directorate, Ebenezer Kingsley Armoh called on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Harrison Dapaah to officially present the awards and to show appreciation to management of the University for their support during the games.
The Vice-Chancellor applauded the students for the awards on behalf of UENR. He said efforts were being made by management to support and motivate students in sports and to help unleash their talents aside the academic purpose of studying in the University. Assuring the students, Prof. Dapaah said the necessary facilities would be made available for training purposes. He encouraged them to prepare adequately towards the next GUSA games and upcoming cross country to be hosted by UENR later in the year.
The Registrar of UENR, Mr. Solomon Panford expressed appreciation to the team for the good move in the area of sports for the University. He urged them to work hard to uplift the name of UENR.
The GUSA games is organized every two years to select athletes to represent Ghana in the world championship competition.
