Welcome to the Department of Basic and Applied Biology

The Department of Basic and Applied Biology was established in September 2017 by the University Council to run both Theoretical and Applied Biology programmes. The Department currently runs 3 undergraduate programmes namely:

 

BSc. Medical Biodiagnostics Science,

BSc. Biological Sciencesand

BSc. Nursing

 

The Department is strategically positioned to make meaningful contribution to UENR’s quest to become a world- class research and teaching university. In this regard, the Department intends to conduct cutting edge research into the numerous biological and biomedical sciences and health related problems in Ghana and the world at large.

 

The research interest of the Department includes the following: Biomedical Science, Behavioural (Health) Science, Neglected Tropical Diseases (Buruli Ulcer, Schistosomiasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Onchocerciasis), Oncology (Cancer Research), Malaria, Non-communicable Diseases (Diabetes mellitus, sickle-cell anaemia, Burkitt’s lymphoma), Transfusion medicine, Food and Industrial Microbiology, Water Sanitation, & Hygiene, Wastewater Treatment Technologies, Bioremediation and Nanotech Biodiagnostics Sciences among many others.
